This video gives a good overall look at the alkaline diet.
Some of the possible benefits of a healthier, more alkaline diet include, more energy, better stamina, clearer thinking, regulation of weight in a more ideal range and better mental attitude. Your mileage may vary.
The video also includes a good overview of which foods are alkaline forming and which are acidic in the body.
Following an alkaline diet does not mean avoiding all acidic foods. The goal is to shoot for 80% alkaline and 20% acidic foods.
In general the acid forming foods include:
- Some nuts
- Processed foods
- Foods high in sugar
- Coffee and other caffeinated beverages
- Pasta and grains
Alkaline foods include:
- Most vegetables, especially the leafy greens
- Some fruits, particularly ones low in sugar
- A few nuts, like almonds
- Most herbs and sea salt
- Olive oil
- Vegetable juice and wheatgrass juice are powerfully alkalizing
Some people struggle to do 80/20, that is 80% alkaline foods. Don’t beat yourself up. Just do the best you can.
It’s not about being perfect, as much as it is just moving in the right direction.
Focus on replacing one junk food with a healthier option each week and before you know it you’ll be losing weight and feeling better than ever!
