Go Green With House Plants

It is know that many modern building materials can off gas toxins in a building. Things like formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, benzene and other harmful gases. Plants can help mop up some of the mess from the air, so your lungs don’t have to, or at least lessen the impact. Many modern household cleaning products are also guilty of releasing toxins into the air.

Here is a list of some of the better plants for indoor use:

  • Spider plant
  • Areca palm
  • Bamboo palm
  • Dwarf date palm
  • Boston fern
  • Janet Craig dracaena
  • English ivy
  • Australian sword fern
  • elephant ear philodendron
  • Peace Lily
  • Rubber plant
  • Weeping fig

Plants that do well in shade are usually best suited for indoors.

A note of caution, some plants can be toxic to pets or children if eaten. Keep this in mind when selecting and placing your indoor plants.

Here is the list of the Top 12 ways to go Green

  • Get 5 cloth bags for each vehicle, so you always have one
  • Compost, get a little container for your kitchen, you can carry to garden compost pile
  • Capture gray water
  • Harvest fruit that may go to waste on your neighbors tree,  good idea to get permission first.
  • Recycle veggie trimming for plant food.
  • Don’t overuse plastic bags in the produce section of the grocery store.

  • Use plastic containers for plant protectors in cold weather.
  • Feed scraps to animals
  • Get goats for cutting your grass, or chickens for the eggs to barter.
