<h2>The Liver</h2>
<p>Chinese practitioners regard the liver as a probable cause for insomnia, if the person is waking between 1-3AM. 3 AM is the peak time for liver energy according to traditional Chinese medicine theory. If your liver is overworked or overloaded with toxins, then it could be considered a factor in sleep disturbance.</p>
<h2>Blood Sugar Issues</h2>
<p>If your blood sugar dips in the night, it can cause a release of cortisol, which tends to wake you up. Sugary foods and those with a high glycemic index are a poor choice anytime of day, but more so in the evening. Fat and protein provide a more blood sugar stability. Of course you want it to be a healthy fat, not a trans fat.</p>
<h2>Are You Living On Purpose?</h2>
<p>Not knowing what your life purpose is or being out of alignment with your life purpose may be a cause of sleep related problems.</p>
<h2>The Immune System</h2>
<ul>
<li>Parasites</li>
<li>Candida</li>
<li>Smoldering infection</li>
<li>Cancer</li>
</ul>
<p>Any of these and other immune system related problems could be contributing to lack of good sleep.</p>
<p>As well if your digestive system is not in good shape, you may not be breaking down your food very well and be lacking in the building blocks of good neurotransmitter health. GABA is especially important.</p>
<h2>Light Balance</h2>
<p>Pay attention to light at night and during the day.</p>
<ul>
<li>Get out in the sunlight some during the day. Go for a walk, step outside during coffee break, play outside with your kids. When sunlight enters your eyes, it stimulates the pineal gland.</li>
<li>Avoid light at night. Make your bedroom as dark as possible. Move the alarm clock further away. Turn off the TV and computer an hour before bed. Try some simple Tai Chi, or gentle yoga moves to wind down.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Herbs and Essential Oils</h2>
<p>There are many herbs that are well know for their relaxing effect. Valerian, hops, skullcap, chamomile to mane a few. Try a nice warm cup of freshly brewed herbal tea.</p>
