<p>One of the biggest challenges for people following an Alkaline Diet is what to eat for snacks.</p>
<p>Sometimes you just get the munchies in between meals and you need a healthy snack.</p>
<p>Here are a couple other healthy snack ideas:</p>
<ul class="bullet-9">
<li>Have a bag of cut up vegetables in the frig at all times, so it is handy to grab.</li>
<li>Almonds are a great portable snack.</li>
<li>A bowl of fruit, but don&#8217;t go overboard, as we have written elsewhere about the sugar content of fruit. Too much of a good thing, just might be too much.</li>
<li>A glass of powdered greens, with some rice protein.</li>
<li>Any kind of dehydrated vegetables.</li>
</ul>

<p>Several years back I did some self testing. I discovered that wheat makes me tired and almost depressed.  Soon after this was verified with allergy testing. Many people are sensitive to the gluten. We are finally starting to see more gluten- free items appearing in the grocery stores, instead of just the health food stores.</p>
<p>You will want to check out what Sally Fallon has to say about soybeans in this video. They are not the health food they are made out to be.</p>
<p>Here are some of the points she makes about soy:</p>
<ul class="bullet-9">
<li>Contains toxins, difficult to get rid of</li>
<li>Difficult to digest, contains enzyme inhibitors</li>
<li>Blocks the absorption of zinc, calcium and other minerals</li>
<li>Inhibits thyroid function</li>
</ul>
<p>So a little bit of soy now and then is not going to kill you. The problem comes in with vegetarians who substitute soy for meat products, thereby eating lots of soy almost every day. Or people who eat a lot of soy, thinking that it is a health food.</p>
<p>She also warns us about soy infant formulas and soy milk.</p>
<p>In Asia, soy foods are fermented for a long time before consumption. They also eat a diet rich in thyroid supportive nutrients.<br />

<p>One day while working in a greenhouse the light came on. This is what I have been waiting for, this is what I have been searching for. 160 pound weight loss later, she shares her story with others.</p>

<h2>Starting out on the Raw Food Diet, the Easier Way</h2>
<p>I like her recommendation, start out slow. In the beginning, go with 50% raw or better. I think that is good advice. A 100% raw diet is really too extreme for most people and may not even be healthy in the long run, in my humble opinion. Personally I like to eat  a good percentage of raw foods. Somewhere around 70% raw is good for me. A little bit of meat helps to match my metabolic type and still keep a good pH alkaline balance.</p>
<h4>I clearly feel more energy. I can eat as much food as I like, and not worry about putting on excess weight.</h4>

<p>So what can you really do to reduce stress, or at least lessen the impact on your life?</p>
<p>Yoga is something that really works for me. I was talking to my yoga teacher after class this past Monday. We both observed how much better we feel after a good yoga class.<span id="more-767"></span></p>

<p>My mind feels much calmer. Not only that, I can actually feel a difference in my body.</p>
<p>Movement is one of the best ways to combat stress. When a zebra is stressed by an attacking lion, what does it do? Run! Stress triggers a need for movement in the body.</p>
<p>When the zebra is done running and the lion ate somebody else, then what? He takes a rest.</p>
<p>Yoga combines movement, with deep breathing and relaxation. That is what makes it a great stress solution. It works with that mind-body connection.</p>

<p>Foods High in Magnesium:</p>

<li>Leafy green vegetables are at the top of my list, also very alkalizing as well. Dandelion greens have lots of other benefits too.</li>
<li>Nuts and peanuts are a good source of magnesium Pumpkin seeds are also a good source of zinc.</li>
<li>Seafood</li>
<li>Beans, legumes</li>
<li>Grains, but not my favorite way to get magnesium.</li>
<li>Bananas and figs</li>
<li>Artichoke, sweet potatoes and okra along with other vegetables.</li>
<li>Sea vegetables like kelp</li>
<li>Buckwheat</li>
<li>Garlic</li>
</ul>
<p>There is also a list of things that can drain calcium from the body:</p>

<li>Coffee</li>
<li>Acidic foods</li>
<li>Stress</li>
<li>Drugs and excess alcohol</li>
<li>Salt</li>
<li>Soda pop</li>

<p>There are many different herbs that can keep things moving down there.</p>
<p>One of my favorite ways to keep my colon clean is to  drink  <a href="https://www.trytlctea.com/vibrant">Iaso organic, cleansing herbal tea.</a> It acts as a very gentle colon cleanse and helps to remove toxins from my body. I drink it almost every day for good maintenance.  It is gentle enough for daily use.</p>
<h2>Load Up the Veggies</h2>
<p>I also make sure I get plenty of fiber in my diet. Loads of fresh raw vegetables do the trick for me. Vegetable blender smoothies make it easy to pump up the fiber content of my diet, without having to choke down a huge plate of vegetables at every meal. I still like to eat a good salad, high amounts of vegetables help my energy and well being. Also great for pH balance.</p>

<p>We talked in some of our other posts about how to adjust the sweetness of a green smoothie, so you almost don&#8217;t even notice the vegetables. Adding fruit can give the green smoothie sweetness and flavor to mask the greens. It is a good place to get started, if you are new on the journey toward vibrant health. Down the road, you can bump up the greens and scale the fruit down some.</p>
<p>Another good way to move toward vibrant health is to <a href="https://www.trytlctea.com/vibrant">drink Iaso, herbal tea.</a> It helps to detox the body. The directions say, mix one quart of the tea concentrate, with 3 quarts of other liquid. <a href="https://www.trytlctea.com/vibrant">The Iaso tea </a>just mixed with water is not half bad. Or you can blend it with many other beverages like sweet tea, herbal tea, or add a little lemon and honey. Even with juice. Use your imagination.
