The problem is, magnesium is not the easiest mineral in the world for your body to absorb. Here are some of the tips suggested in this video:

  • Taking with Vitamin C can boost absorption.
  • Combining magnesium with calcium is also helpful.
  • Taking on an empty stomach is best, food can slow the absorption.
  • Alcohol can cause your body to excrete more magnesium.
  • Phosphates in soda can bind with magnesium.

Best Time to Take Magnesium

I like to take my magnesium right before bed. There is not a lot of food on my stomach,

which satisfies the take on an empty stomach rule. More importantly thought, it helps with relaxation and sleep. A big benefit for me.

Taking first thing in the morning is also an option.

Here is an additional trick:

I break open the magnesium capsule and add to my water. It helps make the water more alkaline. It also helps to spread my magnesium intake throughout the course of the day, instead of taking a large amount all at once.

      My symptoms indicate a deficiency in magnesium but whenever I take a magnesium supplement I get a headache. What do you recommend? Thank you

          My wife has magnesium deficiency and our herbalist suggested epsom salt baths every 3 or 4 days and/or soaking your feet in epsom salt. magnesium is readily absorbed thru the skin tomatos potatos and bell peppers are god sources of mag

      I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Peter Gilham’s Natural Calm. It is the VERY BEST Magnesium supplement I have EVER researched or found. Keep on enjoying it!!!

      I do like Nature’s Sunshine’s products too. But as for Magnesium, it is the ABSOLUTE BEST on the market. I get the one with Calcium added…they are BOTH absorbed better that way. My midwife said ALWAYS take a powdered or liquid calcium supplement.
