Power up your day, your workout or whatever it is you are doing.
This smoothie has the nutrients to get it going. A good quality protein powder, in this case, SP complete, is a key ingredient for a pre-workout, energizing smoothie.
Another important component is the chia seeds. They provide long lasting sustain release energy, because they digest slowly. Chia seeds are also a great source of healthy omega 3 fatty acids, namely ALA, alpha linolenic acid.

Organic Fruit and Leafy Greens
The fruit and leafy greens provide a host of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The addition of 90% chocolate provides additional nutrients, for example magnesium. I am so happy that many natural health people are talking about the benefits of chocolate. The 90% version has very little added sugar or other additives. It’s the sugar, milk and other junk added to commercial chocolate bars that make them unhealthy.
Nutrient Rich Combination
This combo provides a well rounded, nutrient rich, energizing drink. I had one this morning before my workout. It is also relatively low in carbs. This is important if you want to achieve beneficial hormone optimization from your workout, like growth hormone and testosterone. Too many carbs can ruin this effect. All that is needed is a few carbs for energy during the workout.
Put it Together
Start by soaking the chia seeds in water for about 10 minutes, until they swell up and become soft. Rinse some leafy greens and add them in. I got these greens from a local garden. They do not use pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers. All the plants are nourished with compost. Use whatever greens are fresh and available in your area. The add a few squares of chocolate. Raw cacao would be even better. Slice up about half a mango. Cut the leaves off of the strawberries. Put it all in the blender with the protein powder. Top it off with unsweetened almond milk, or coconut milk.
You could also use this as a post-workout smoothie. It will help to replenish protein and nutrients.
I often like to work out at the beach. There are lots of opportunities for exercise, throwing the football, hula hooping, or swimming in the ocean. Any type of workout should be fun. That way you are more likely to actually do it.[ad name=”teacup”]
