Calorie RestrictionCalorie restriction has been shown to improve the quality of life and increase longevity.

Who really cares if you live longer, if you are just going to spend those years in a nursing home.

That is the beauty of calorie restriction. It might help keep you out of the nursing home and improve lifespan. In animal studies at least.  (even though animals don’t have nursing homes.)

In the video he mentions the high-low diet. This means low calories, but high nutrient density. In other words a “junk food” calorie restriction diet would probably not work so well.

When you eat fewer calories, you also tend to take in fewer nutrients. That means better quality food is in order.

Do animal studies apply to humans? Some evidence seems to point in that direction, but only time and further study will tell for sure.

So far calorie restriction has shown benefit in the following animals studied:

  • Primates
  • Rodents
  • Yeast
  • Worms
  • Fish
