She also had a severe case of candida which started years earlier.

In fact she said, I was the poster child for candida.

She had consumed lots of antibiotics, lots of sugar and had mercury amalgam fillings.

She read the book, The Yeast Connection, by Dr. William Crook. Suddenly her symptoms began to make sense. By making serious changes to her diet among other things she realized improvement. Problem was, she went back to her old ways after a while. So back came the candida issues, worse than before.

The first step is looking at what you eat. Sugar may be the worst thing to put in the human body.

• Sugar
• Dairy
• Gluten containing foods
• Trans fats

Top 10 Ways to Beat Sugar Addiction

1. Cut out sodas. Not only are soft drinks loaded with sugar, but they are the worst offender, when it comes to balancing your pH. They are on the “very acid” side of the Alkaline diet chart. This is the first thing to go, if you are serious about being healthy and feeling great.
2. Artificial sweeteners are no better. Do your own research on this and discover the problems with fake sweets. Yesterday I bought a Stevia plant at Herbfest. Stevia is a great natural sweetener that has hardly any  calories.
3. Don’t bring it home in the first place. If sugar is lurking around the house, it makes it very difficult to avoid munching on some sweets.
4. Fruit is much healthier choice for folks cutting back on sugar. Even though fruit contains sugar, the fiber slows down the adsorption in the digestive system. It also comes with vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients. Just be careful not to over do it. Diabetics and those with yeast and sugar issues should be cautions.
5. Be aware of the emotional aspect. Sweets are typically associated with celebrations, holidays and rewards. Check out the video for some great thoughts on emotions and food.
6. Taper off slowly. This works for some people and cold turkey sugar avoidance works better for some. Your body gets used to being without sugar after a period of time.
7. Don’t fall off the wagon. Be careful of cravings and getting hooked all over again.
8. Eat low glycemic foods.
9. Read labels carefully
10. Get a friend to support you.

My personal tip: Get good nourishment. This helps to ward off cravings. We all know that we are supposed to be eating more fruits and vegetables. But what if you are in a time crunch? That’s where powdered greens come in. Mix one small scoop in water (purified), shake and go. There are many good greens products on the market. My current favorite is Core Greens, by Synergy. It has the best formulation of ingredients I have seen so far.

pH affects Candida

Candida loves an acidic environment in the body.

Candida, or otherwise know as yeast overgrowth and over acidity are commonly found together. Kind of like peanut butter and jelly.

Remember that commercial with the cartoon character bugs setting up home sweet home inside someones body? Then along comes the magic medication and sweeps then away. Well candida is not so easy to eradicate. It is hard to get rid of once it has set up shop in the body. It is very hardy and tenacious.

Candida contributors:

• Antibiotic use – kills off the good and bad bacteria. Lack of beneficial flora in the gut creates a great environment for candida.
• Sugar – yeast loves sugar, kind of like throwing gas on a fire. And the candida usually doesn’t care if it’s all natural or refined it’s all the same – food.
• Caffeine
• Alcohol – see sugar, same idea
• Refined foods – try whole, natural alkaline forming foods instead.

In this video, Dr. Christopher Lepisto recommends an anti-fungal along with an alkaline eating program. Garlic is my personal favorite.

Alkaline Broth Recipe

Get a large pot.

• Add a variety of vegetables celery, carrots, potatoes, and spinach, collards, kale. Many other vegetables will work here as well. Use what is available. In season vegetables are always best.
• A large onion
• Several cloves of garlic
• Fill the pot with water, covering the vegetables completely
• Simmer for up to an hour
• Strain
• Enjoy a bowl while it’s hot.

Store the rest in the frig. Glass containers are best for storage. A few peanut butter jars that have been washed out make a good single serving storage.
