Raw Food Author Explains Why She’s No Longer Vegan #649

Problems with a Vegetarian Diet

This is not the first time I have heard a story about someone who was a vegan or vegetarian and had health problems. Often people will experience health benefits from a vegetarian diet in the beginning, because it is a cleansing diet and is so much better than the SAD, or standard American diet. But long term there can be issues. B12 deficiency is one issue that comes up on a vegan diet.

I tried being a vegetarian myself for a while and it did not work well for me at all. I felt like crap. I love to eat large quantities of vegetables for the health benefits, but I need some meat in order to feel well.

A brief period, a few days or a couple weeks on a detox cleansing diet is one thing. Juice fasting, smoothie fasting, or a raw vegan cleanse diet is a good idea for the short run, done periodically.

Another important point is that people are different, some can do well on a vegetarian diet, others do not. The Metabolic Typing Diet, by William Wolcott, is one of my favorite books. There is a test in the book, that will help determine if you are a carbo type, protein type or mixed type. If I could have one book about diet on my shelf, this one would be it.

Enzymes are a Big Reason to Eat Raw Foods

Digestive Pack

The video starts out with her talking about enzymes. Getting a good supply of enzymes is right up there at the top as one of the reasons to include lots of raw foods in the diet. Enzymes are like the spark plugs in the body, like the Chi or life force.

Enzyme potential decreases radically at middle age. She quotes one doctor as saying, “The more you eat cooked food the sooner your gonna die.”

Like suicide on the installment plan.

    1. Dave Dixon says:

For exactly 41 years, I have refrained from eating any meat or meat products. At age 66, my health is far above that of many others my age. Of course, I have led a pretty active life as well, having been involved with fitness for all those years.

And B-12 deficiency? Not a factor when one consumes the occasional Spirulina or Chlorella product, or its equivalent. Meat is not the only source of this vitamin; it just happens to be the most common.

It has been my understanding that not all of us (humans) are intended to refrain from meat consumption. If one believes in eating according to blood type, it is understood that we are not all “painted with the same brush.” Some deal well with a meatless diet; others do not.

Agreed that enzymes are very important, since without them, our foods would not be broken down, but taking these enzymes in pill form is a mere band aid solution, methinks. Take a look at why your system is not breaking down food and correct that, rather than turn to an outside (artificial) source for help.

There is far more to include on this topic, but space restrictions are such that this will have to suffice.
